Dr. Derek Jansen is pleased to rejoin the National Council Consultants
after nearly a year of personal and professional growth during which
he continued his work on practice management reviews, medical record
audits, and journal publications, primarily in the areas of documentation,
coding and billing.
In December 2001, Practice Management Associates was formed and Jansen
began work with Federally Qualified Health Centers with the goal
of integrating primary care and behavioral health services to urban
populations. That work continues with a project that attracts medically
indigent and working poor to single centers that provide the full
range of medical, rehabilitative and behavioral healthcare.
Derek brings 30 years of experience in community behavioral healthcare
to Practice Management Associates and the National Council, ranging
from direct care provision to hospital and outpatient administration
as the clinical director of Adult and Dual Diagnosis Services for
a regional psychiatric hospital system. He has taught graduate level
courses in psychology, family therapy, criminal justice and social
policy. During these years he provided clinical consultation to
the Massachusetts Department of Social Services, Department of Youth
Services, Department of Mental Health and worked as a consultant
in community-based agencies in and around Boston. Derek has been
a presenter at national conferences for the Association of Ambulatory
Behavioral Health and the National Council. He is a Certified Professional
Coder, a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association,
Medical Billers Association of America and numerous other professional
associations. He was a contributing editor to the newsletter "Psychiatry
Practice Success" and is a contributor to "Behavioral
Healthcare Accreditation and Accountability Alert," published
by Manisses Communication Group, Inc.
